Brass is a golden-colored alloy of copper and zinc that is very commonly used in jewelry due to its similarity to gold. It is a material very suitable for electroplating (rhodium-plated, gold or silver plated finish) and highly malleable.
We especially like this material for two reasons:
- Its high recyclability, making it a sustainable and environmentally friendly option.
- Its resistance to extreme temperatures and light. Its hardness is greater than that of copper.
For these reasons it is an ideal metal for making quality hardware or parts.
But…
Does it cause allergies?
Brass pieces are sold as "hypoallergenic" since they do not contain nickel, the main metal that causes an allergic reaction.
Can our brass pieces darken?
They can tarnish over time, especially if not used. To clean them, a little soapy water is enough.
Can it rust?
Depending on the PH of each skin, especially those with a PH that is too acidic. To prevent this from happening we must clean them and store them in the jewelry box. They can also turn greenish or opaque if they come into contact with: cosmetics, perfumes, chlorine or acid sweat.
