Reminiscences of Generation X and the ANDESITES Jeans Revolution

Reminiscencias de la Generación X y la Revolución de ANDESITES Jeans

Those of us who are of a certain age, or rather those of us who belong to the famous Generation X, or in other words, went to primary school, one of our greatest treasures in terms of fashion was wearing Bonaventure shoes.

There were several models that were "must-haves" for any teenager: the ones with the little studs, the ones embroidered with the name on the leg... But if anything set them apart, it was the enormous metallic plate they used as a label and, above all, that jewel button! Green, blue... we had to have them!

And all this stems from my déjà vu upon meeting the founders of ANDESITES, which, despite its name, is a Spanish and very family-run company. Both brands share a common element: their buttons, both exquisite pieces. And since at Kirei there's nothing we love more than a precious stone, we're going to tell you a little about the history of this jeans brand.

It all started in a first-year high school class at the French Lycée in Madrid. That day, José Ten was studying a topic about the formation of certain rocks, specifically volcanic rocks, and how andesite (Andesite is French for andesite) is formed from volcanic lava. This was the beginning of the idea… José spoke with his mother, Ana Verdú, and suggested: What if we created a jeans brand related to minerals? After all, to make jeans, you need water and rock.

They hadn't even designed the brand's identity yet; they had the name ANDESITES, the main feature: their emerald-colored button reminiscent of andesite, and how they wanted their jeans to be... Above all, comfortable and well-fitting!

His mother, who already knew and worked in the fashion industry and is now his business partner, told me that she knew her son had an artistic vocation from a young age. Always drawing, passionate about architecture and design... Now, they divide the roles within the company, each in a different area.

Ana handles distribution and sales, and they're already achieving international success. What's more, many people don't know that the company is Spanish and that José is the creative force behind it.

They started out designing for women. Now they have a unisex collection, and this summer they've launched styles for those of us who love colored jeans. I still can't decide if I like the orange, yellow, or pink ones best… Although among their most iconic models, De Soleil shoes are perfect for any look, whether casual with a samba and a t-shirt or for a night out with high heels and a white silk shirt.

We will continue to watch their next steps, which, from what we know, are going to be surprising.

At Kirei we will continue to follow this and other brands that, like us, appreciate and seek to be artisans, genuine and with a special charm.
